This page is maintained by the Arabist team. It explains what the platform does with your uploads and account data, and where the AI's limits lie. It is not an independent audit.
What the AI does — and doesn't
Arabist produces diplomatic transcriptions, script identification, approximate dating, morphology, glossary, translation, bibliography, and catalog records. Every output is a draft. Dating is approximate; readings on damaged or heavily-annotated folios are partial; translation is philological, not literary. Nothing produced by Arabist should be published or catalogued without specialist review.
Human verification is required
Arabist is designed to accelerate scholars, not replace them. Every field in a report is editable, exportable, and citation-ready — precisely because it is expected to pass under expert eyes before use.
File ownership
You own your uploads. Uploads are processed privately for your account and are never used to train third-party models. See our Privacy Notice for details on processing and subprocessors.
Data retention
Jobs, pages, and generated reports remain in your account until you delete them from your account. You can export a full JSON copy of your data or permanently delete your account at any time — deletion cascades across projects, jobs, and pages, and is audited internally.
Privacy and GDPR
We process personal data only as needed to run the service and honor requests for access, rectification, deletion, and portability. See our Privacy Notice and the Data Processing Addendum for institutional deployments.
Research ethics
Arabist is built for scholarly use. Do not upload material you are not entitled to share. Respect the rights of holding institutions and living authors. Cite Arabist as an AI-assisted tool where relevant, and disclose the extent of automated processing in editions and catalog records.
Security
See our Trust & Security page for the current technical controls (RLS, HTTPS, HSTS, CSP, headers, admin gating). Report vulnerabilities to security@arabist.io.
